Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte admits that Yves Bissouma is struggling.

Transfer News: Manchester City could spoil Yves Bissouma party for Tottenham Hotspur

A report by Express states that Manchester City would enter the transfer race for Tottenham Hotspur target, Yves Bissouma, if Fernandinho decides to call it a day at the Etihad.

The 26-year-old has been a vital part of City’s midfield over the years. The Citizens got in Rodri from Atletico Madrid and the Spaniard now starts over the Brazilian on most occasions.

The report mentions that Fernandinho will consider a 12-month extension to his City contract after the Champions League final later in May this year. But if he opts to not renew it, then City would know that recruits in defensive midfield are required.

This creates a problem for Spurs because it would mean City entering the race for their transfer target, Bissouma. Arsenal are said to be leading the race for him but Tottenham, West Ham, and even Everton have made inquiries for him. (h/t Express)

Battle for Bissouma

He was signed by Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018 from Lille for a £15million fee. His contract runs until the summer of 2023 and the Seagulls value him at £40million.

Declan Rice is another option for City but his £100million valuation makes the Mali midfielder a more affordable option. Bissouma has had an impressive season at Brighton.

As for Spurs, they can do with someone like the 24-year-old in their midfield. Bissouma could make a good pairing with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and the double pivot would be a lot more solid with his defensive capabilities.

But for that, they would have to fend off a lot of Premier League clubs. Their problems would only be compounded by the fact that it’s very unlikely that they make the top-4 now.

With just 4 games left this season and a 5-point gap on 4th-placed Chelsea, it seems Ryan Mason’s Spurs can only hope for Europa League qualification now.
