Tottenham get Rafa Benitez boost after his latest comments
According to news from Chronicle Live, Tottenham have received a boost in their pursuit for Rafa Benitez. The former Liverpool manager is currently back in England after his China sojourn and wants to manage in the country.
Tottenham are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho last month. The Portuguese lasted just seventeen months after taking over from Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019.
While former midfielder Ryan Mason has been placed in charge on an interim basis, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is scouring the market for a new full-time manager. And among the names being mentioned for the role is that of Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard is currently unattached after having left Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional.
There have been links to Benitez, with Peter Crouch endorsing the Spaniard for the role. However, it has now been reported that Benitez is keen on a job in England as he admitted to keeping tabs on the Premier League and Championship.
“I moved to China because there were no top sides here, so I needed to keep competing and doing my job. But at the moment I’m quite keen to stay in England, in Liverpool. I’m watching every Premier League game and sometimes Championship games so that I’m always ready. The priority is England, the Premier League, my family is here and I like the style of football here. I will try to be ready here.”

Benitez, over his career, has won the Champions League, the Europa League along with various other trophies. The job he did at Newcastle, despite being on a shoestring budget, was also admirable. He may not be the attack-minded coach that Levy wants but is certainly someone who could bring a sense of stability at the club.
