Transfer News: Tottenham plan major defensive overhaul in the summer
According to news from football.london (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are planning a major overhaul in the defensive department in the summer transfer window.
It has been a difficult season for Tottenham despite the positive start that saw us emerge as early contenders for the Premier League title. Things have gone downhill since the festive period as we are now staring at the possibility of missing out on Champions League football for the second season in a row.
It is for this reason that Jose Mourinho was sacked as the manager of Tottenham last summer. And while the lookout for a new permanent boss continues, it seems like plans are being drafted for the summer transfer window already with Tottenham focusing on the defensive department in particular.
Indeed, Tottenham are, as per the report, keen on securing the transfer of at least two new centre-backs in the summer. However, the club are very much aware that for that to materialise, they will need to offload some of the players currently on the roster in order to make room for any potential new arrivals.
Joe Rodon arrived at the club only last summer from Swansea City but has had a slow start to life at the club and doesn’t seem to be favoured by interim manager Ryan Mason. In addition, Eric Dier has had an up and down campaign while Toby Alderweireld has shown signs of age starting to catch up with him.
Given Davinson Sanchez’s well-known inconsistency problems, it goes without saying that at least one, if not two, centre-backs will be welcome at Spurs. To that end, we have been linked with the likes of Jannik Vestergaard, Joachim Anderson among others. (h/t Express)
