Dimitar Berbatov backs Scott Parker to become next Tottenham manager

Speaking to Betfair (h/t Football.london), former Premier League striker Dimitar Berbatov has backed Fulham boss Scott Parker to become the next Tottenham manager.

Tottenham are on the lookout for their next manager after Jose Mourinho was shown the doors by the club last month in the aftermath of some disappointing results and performances.

The search for the new manager, while Ryan Mason continues on an interim basis as the first-team boss, hasn’t gone down all too well for Tottenham up until the point, what with missing out on a few top targets. This has led the club to look at Fulham manager Scott Parker as a potential candidate to take over the reins.

Parker has only been in management for a couple of years now, having been appointed the Cottagers’ boss late in the 2018/19 season. Having been unable to stop them from relegation back then, the 40-year-old oversaw a swift return to Premier League football for the Londoners in his first full season in charge.

And even though Fulham have once again been relegated, Parker has done well in his role and has earned plaudits for the job he has done at Craven Cottage. With his name in the fray for the next Tottenham manager, Berbatov, who has worked with him at Fulham, has thrown his weight behind the Englishman.

“Scott Parker is a great coach, I have seen first-hand at the training ground how he conducts himself. The big question for me is will he stay if Spurs come calling? Keeping hold of him isn’t going to be an easy task for Fulham, but they need to because he will have a tough decision to make if Spurs come calling.

“He’s tasted managing in the Premier League and I think he knows he’s capable of doing good things, the question is whether or not that is with Fulham or someone else.”

Parker’s past association with Tottenham certainly make him an appealing target for Daniel Levy & co. However, given the situation, perhaps a more accomplished and experienced manager would be the way to go about things for Spurs. Nevertheless, Parker has found a supporter in Berbatov, who believes that the 40-year-old could do good things at Tottenham.
