Fabrizio Romano dismisses AS Roma interest in Tottenham ace Eric Dier

Speaking on his Here We Go Podcast, reliable journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has rubbished rumours that claimed that Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Tottenham defender Eric Dier at AS Roma.

Mourinho was sacked from Tottenham last month following a run of disappointing results. Only a couple of weeks after he was axed, the Portuguese tactician got a new job, with him set to take over as the manager of AS Roma at the end of the current season.

As soon as that was announced, reports in Italy started to link Mourinho and Roma with moves for his former players at the clubs he has previously managed, with one such link claiming that the Portuguese wanted to sign Eric Dier from Tottenham.

Romano, however, has dismissed those claims as absolute fake news.

“Also to clarify about Mourinho, there is nothing between Roma and Tottenham for Eric Dier, so that is fake news too.”

That was always likely to be the case, even though Dier was one of Mourinho’s most-trusted lieutenants during his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. AS Roma are set to be without European football for next season which could hurt their chances of going all out on top players despite Mourinho’s appeal.

As for Dier, the England international has had an up and down season at Tottenham. Reinstated to his preferred role at the heart of the defence, the former Sporting Lisbon ace started the season well but saw his form decline in recent months. He will be hoping to end the campaign on a strong note and secure his future at the club amid talks of a defensive overhaul.
