Tottenham set sights on Marcelo Bielsa as hunt for manager continues

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are now eyeing Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa as a potential candidate to take over as the manager of the first-team at the end of the season.

Marcelo Bielsa is widely regarded as one of the most tactically astute minds in the game of football. Someone who has inspired the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino, the 65-year-old Argentine has previously managed the likes of Newell’s Old Boys, Atlas Guadalajara, CF America, Velez Sarsfield, Espanyol, Athletic Bilbao, Marseille and Lille.

In addition, Bielsa has also had stints with the Argentine and the Chile national team before he took over at Leeds United in 2018. Having just about failed to lead them to promotion in his first season, the seasoned manager achieved it during the 2019/20 campaign, bringing the Whites back to the Premier League after a 16-year wait.

Since returning to the top top-flight, Leeds under Bielsa have been one of the most exciting teams to watch in action and have fared well in games against the big teams, too, most recently defeating Tottenham away at Elland Road.

So, while he may not have won any major trophies in the game, Bielsa, has now emerged as a potential managerial candidate for Spurs, as the search for Jose Mourinho’s replacement carries on. The Argentine manager is known for signing just one-year contract with clubs and his current deal with Leeds runs out at the end of the season.
