Transfer News: Tottenham accept PSG bid for Serge Aurier

According to transfer news from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have already accepted a bid from PSG for right-back Serge Aurier, with a deal all but done.

Aurier joined Tottenham Hotspur from Paris Saint-Germain back in the summer of 2017. However, the Ivory Coast right-back had to play second fiddle to Kieran Trippier in his first two years at the club. Following the Englishman’s departure from Spurs in 2019, Aurier became the first-choice last season but failed to impress.

This led to Tottenham investing in a new right-back this last summer, signing Matt Doherty from Wolves. The new signing, too, proved to be unreliable, leading to Aurier reclaiming his spot in the side. The defender has featured 27 times for us this season, that includes 19 league starts.

However, now that 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the north London club, it seems like Tottenham have decided to part ways with the Ivorian this year instead of losing him for a free transfer twelve months’ down the line.

And as per the report, Aurier is closing in on a return to former club Paris Saint-Germain. It is said that the two clubs have already agreed on a transfer fee for the Ivory Coast international and barring any late hiccups, a deal is very much expected to go through.

This will see Aurier reunite with former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino at Parc des Princes, with the Argentine taking over as the PSG manager in January earlier this year.

With Aurier set to be sold, it would leave Doherty as the only right-back at Tottenham, although Japhet Tanganga can play in the position. Nevertheless, it could lead to the recruitment of a new right-sided full-back come summer.
