Transfer News: Man City boss Pep Guardiola targeting move for Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane
A report by The Times (Subscription Required) [h/t Daily Mail] states that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has a four-man transfer wishlist for the summer, which includes Tottenham Hotspur star striker Harry Kane.
The list is drawn up in order to replace the outgoing Sergio Aguero. The 32-year-old Argentine will leave this summer after 10 years at the club and City want a striker that can fill his boots.
There are three other top strikers apart from Kane on the shortlist. Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Andre Silva, and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland are all potential candidates. (h/t Daily Mail)
The Argentine striker, Martinez, has played a massive role in Antonio Conte’s league-winning Inter Milan side, with the 23-year-old scoring 16 times in the league. Silva, on the other hand, has 25 league goals in 30 league games.
Hands off!
Both Martinez and Silva, 25, are said to be ‘significantly cheaper’ than Kane and Haaland. Spurs and Dortmund both value their respective strikers at around £150m.
Dortmund want to sell Haaland in the summer before his £65million release clause becomes active next year. Spurs fans would hope City secure that deal and take their eyes off their 27-year-old talisman.
Kane has yet to win a trophy at Tottenham in his entire career. But whichever manager takes over at Spurs next would know that having Kane in the squad is vital if a trophy-winning season is to be had.
If, say, the Englishman is sold, Spurs do not have anyone in their current squad to take over the mantle. Son Heung-min is scoring at a great rate but making him play centre-forward takes away the threat he offers on the wing.

In such a situation, the club would have to find someone in the transfer market if they want to effectively replace Kane. If not, it could be the start of a further decline for the club.
