Tottenham star Gareth Bale considering retirement in 2022
According to Wales Online, Tottenham star Gareth Bale is considering retirement in 2022. The on-loan Real Madrid winger is pondering on hanging up the boots after his contract with Real ends in 2022.
Bale left Real Madrid last summer to join Jose Mourinho’s Spurs on a one-year-long loan deal. The Welshman previously spent 6 years at Spurs before making the move to Spain in 2013. The 31-year-old was struggling for game-time under Zinedine Zidane but has found minutes easy to come by in the past few months. This is due to him picking up form after a slow start to his Spurs return.
Bale might retire in 2022
Bale’s current loan deal expires at the end of the ongoing season. As of now, Bale will be returning to Real Madrid. However, the Welsh wizard did fall out with Zidane and might not exactly feature in his plans.
While it is unknown as to what he will be doing or where he will be playing, news in Spain has pointed to a possible retirement in 2022.
“[Bale] has made no secret in the dressing room that he intends to push his fitness to the limit, always putting the European Championship first. He has also made no secret of his intention to return to Real Madrid this summer to complete the remaining year of his contract at the Santiago Bernabéu and then retire from football, as this newspaper has learned.
“So for now, Bale’s mind is not focused on another adventure when his time is up at Madrid at the age of 33. It remains to be seen if Gareth Bale hangs up his boots in 2022, but whatever happens, he will be first focused on Wales in next month’s European Championship.”
