Transfer News: Tottenham, Chelsea to battle for Jonas Hofmann

According to transfer news from German publication Kicker, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are set to battle it out for the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach winger Jonas Hofmann.

Hofmann came through the youth ranks at TSG Hoffenheim and made the switch to Borussia Dortmund in 2011. He spent close to five years with the Black and Yellows, during which he also had a loan stint away at Mainz, before signing for Gladbach in January 2016.

Since moving to Borussia Park, the 28-year-old has steadily grown into a key player for the Foals, making 153 appearances, in which he has 22 goals and 33 assists. Hofmann enjoyed a promising 2020/21 campaign during which he managed a tally of 8 goals and 13 assists from 33 games in all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)

And, it is now being claimed that the German international is attracting serious interest from both Tottenham and Chelsea. A move for the 28-year-old Hofmann would make a lot of sense for Tottenham given as the club will be without Gareth Bale next term.

Indeed, the Welshman is back at Real Madrid following the expiry of his loan spell and may or may not return for another stint, thus putting in place a succession plan becomes imperative. In addition, Lucas Moura has been linked with an exit while Erik Lamela is also staring at an uncertain future, all of which would lead to the club needing a new right-winger like Hofmann.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Hofmann has a contract with Tottenham that runs till the summer of 2023. The German international has no release clause embedded in his deal with Gladbach either. With Chelsea also interested in securing his services, it remains to be seen if Spurs do make an attempt to capture the winger’s transfer.
