Serge Aurier set for Tottenham Hotspur exit amid PSG interest
Speaking to L’Equipe (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier has confirmed that he will be leaving the club this summer amid interest from former employers PSG.
Aurier signed for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2017 from PSG. However, the Ivory Coast international had to play second-fiddle to Kieran Trippier in his first couple of seasons at the club. Following the Englishman’s transfer to Atletico Madrid in 2019, Aurier became the first-choice right-back but had an up and down season.
This led to Tottenham signing Matt Doherty from Wolves last summer. And even though the Irishman started the season as first-choice, poor performances and injury issues meant that he eventually yielded the place to Aurier again. The 28-year-old finished the season with 27 games in all competitions in which he scored twice and set up three more.
Aurier, though, is entering the final year of his contract with Tottenham. And the Ivorian has now confirmed that he will not be signing an extension and would instead be leaving the club. The full-back also added that he has an agreement with the club to depart this summer. (h/t Express)
“Everyone knows that if I wanted to extend my contract at Tottenham, I’d have already done so. I’m not going to do that in six months’ time. I’ve experienced the Premier League and a Champions League final. I’ve reached the end of a cycle and it’s time to look elsewhere. Both parties, the board and my agents are in agreement in terms of the conditions, so we will see.”
Aurier eyes PSG return
The 28-year-old then went on to express his desire to return to former club PSG. The French giants have been linked with a swoop for Aurier and it seems like, he too has his heart set on moving back to Parc des Princes this summer. (h/t Express)
“I’ve never hidden my desire to go back to PSG one day. It’s my boyhood club and I’m still a PSG supporter, so I feel free to talk about it, but I don’t want people to think I’m just issuing a come-and-get-me plea and I’m not closing the door on anyone. If the club does make an offer this summer, PSG will certainly be among my top choices.”

Aurier, since arriving at Tottenham, has made 110 appearances, scoring eight goals. The right-back has never really convinced the fans of his standing as the first-choice right-back. And, if his words are to go by, the 28-year-old may very well have played his last game for Spurs.
