Transfer News: Tottenham face Leicester competition in race for Jonas Hofmann
According to transfer news from German publication BILD (h/t Leicestershire Live), Tottenham Hotspur are set to face competition from Leicester City as well as Atletico Madrid for the signing of Jonas Hofmann.
Hofmann came through the TSG Hoffenheim youth academy, before signing for Borussia Dortmund in 2011. After nearly five years with the Black and Yellows, the 28-year-old signed for Borussia Monchengladbach during the January transfer window of 2016.
Till date, Hofmann has made 153 appearances for Gladbach, in which he has 22 goals and 33 assists. The German international enjoyed a promising 2020/21 campaign during which he managed a tally of 8 goals and 13 assists from 33 games in all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Hofmann’s exploits with Die Fohlen has landed him on the radars of Tottenham Hotspur as well as Chelsea. And now, even Leicester City and Atletico Madrid have expressed an interest in securing the 28-year-old versatile winger’s services ahead of the summer transfer window. (h/t Leicestershire Live)
Tottenham need a new winger in the squad heading into the next season as Gareth Bale’s loan deal expired at the end of the 2020/21 campaign. In addition to that, Steven Bergwijn has been linked with an exit of late while Erik Lamela is also staring at an uncertain future with the London giants.
So, a move for someone like Hofmann, who has plenty of experience of playing at the highest level and is in the peak years of his career, would make a great deal of sense for the club.

Rated at £14m, Hofmann wouldn’t burn a hole through the pockets either, making him an attractive prospect for Spurs. However, with the competition for his signing increasing, the club must act fast if they are serious about snapping up his services this summer.
