Tottenham star Erik Lamela wins the PL Goal of the Season Award for wonder-strike vs Arsenal

As confirmed by the club’s official website, Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela has won the Premier League Goal of the Season Award for 2020/21, for his rabona strike against Arsenal.

The goal came about in the North London Derby at the Emirates Stadium in March. Lamela, who was not a part of the starting XI that day, had come on to replace the injured Son Heung-min early in the game.

And Lamela made his chance count, as he put Tottenham in front with an audacious rabona flick from inside the box through the legs of an Arsenal player, sending fans into a tizzy.

It was an absolute wondrous strike, considering the number of bodies in front of him. And having been already named the Goal of the Season from the BBC’s Match of the Day, and at the London Football Awards, as well as the Club Awards, Lamela has now bagged the Premier League top honour as well.

The Argentine international saw off competition from the likes of James Maddison, Manuel Lanzini, Ola Aina, Sebastien Haller, Mohamed Salah, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard to clinch the award.

Lamela’s goal may have stood out on the day, but the result did not go our way at the Emirates. Indeed, Tottenham ended up losing 2-1 to Arsenal, although the team did manage to finish above them in the Premier League standings.

Congratulations to Lamela for winning the Award!
