Transfer News: Tottenham plot summer move for Nicolas Gonzalez
According to fresh transfer news update from reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a move for VfB Stuttgart’s Argentine attacker Nicolas Gonzalez.
The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Sportivo Escobar, Club Belen and Argentinos Juniors. He went on to make 44 appearances for the latter club, scoring 11 goals, before joining Stuttgart in the summer of 2018.
Gonzalez endured a difficult debut season in Germany as Stuttgart were relegated from the Bundesliga. However, the winger found his footing in the second division, helping them back to the top-flight. The 22-year-old was particularly impressive in the post-lockdown period, scoring eight goals in nine games.
Upon returning to the Bundesliga, Gonzalez carried on in the same vein of form. He bagged six goals and two assists in 15 league matches before an injury cut short his season. The 23-year-old has made five appearances for the Argentine national team and has scored two goals, both of them coming in his last two matches for La Albiceleste.
Gonzalez has emerged as a transfer target for Serie A club Fiorentina, who have offered €25m with add-ons for the Argentine. Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested in the 23-year-old and now Tottenham have too entered the race, as per Romano.
The journalist goes on to add that Spurs’ interest in Gonzalez is being driven by newly-appointed Director of Football, Fabio Paratici. However, there hasn’t been an official approach made by the club so far.
Nico Gonzalez is expected to leave Stuttgard in the next days. Fiorentina offered €25m add ons included, Brighton interested too but Tottenham are now planning for a move. Fabio Paratici appreciates him – no official proposal yet from Spurs. ⚪️🇦🇷 #transfers @DiMarzio

With Gareth Bale’s loan deal coming to an end and the likes of Steven Bergwijn and Erik Lamela struggling, adding another wide player with age and potential would be a smart move on Tottenham’s part. Whether they are able to land the transfer of Gonzalez, however, remains to be seen.
