Tottenham Hotspur set to announce Paulo Fonseca as new manager
According to The Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur are all set to sign Paulo Fonseca as their new manager this week as they look to replace Jose Mourinho permanently.
Daniel Levy sacked Jose Mourinho back in April just days before the Carabao Cup final. And since then, Spurs were managed by Ryan Mason – with the 29-year-old functioning as an interim boss.
Under the former Spurs and Hull City midfielder, Spurs saw a mixture of fortunes as they lost the Carabao Cup final but made the UEFA Conference League on the last day of the Premier League. But his tenure is now ended.
The report mentions that Spurs could announce Fonseca this week itself on a three-year deal – which would be broken down as two years at the club with an option to extend it by another year. He could be unveiled on Wednesday.
Fonseca as Spurs’ new manager
Fonseca is, of course, the former AS Roma boss. And he was the manager of the club before ex-Spurs manager Mourinho, was announced to take over the managerial helm for next season. (h/t The Guardian)
The long saga of Spurs finding a new manager is finally coming to an end. While it could have been done earlier, Spurs fans would be glad that it is not going to take any l0nger now.
It is important for any new manager to have time to settle in at his club; figure out who to keep, who to sell, and how to coach his team to succeed next season.
