Tottenham Hotspur reluctant to lose Hugo Lloris in the summer

According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur are reluctant to lose club captain and veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris this summer as he enters the final year of his contract.

Lloris has been one of Tottenham’s best players in the duration that he has been with the club. Having signed from Olympique Lyon nine years ago, the Frenchman has been a top servant for Spurs be it with his performances or his leadership.

At 34, though, he is fast approaching the final phase of his career. Lloris’ current contract with Tottenham expires in the summer next year. He has spoken previously of wanting to return to his homeland, France while there have been links to the Major League Soccer in the USA as well. (h/t Football.london)

However, Tottenham Hotspur are not willing to let him leave this summer. The club still see him as a valuable player, and despite a few mistakes, he was one of Spurs’ better players in the season gone by.

It is claimed that Tottenham are aware that replacing him with a goalkeeper of similar quality and expertise could prove to be very expensive. In addition, his transfer is unlikely to generate much in the way of funds either, as he is 34 and has just a year left on his deal. (h/t Football.london)

As a result, Tottenham want to keep a hold of the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, even though it is unclear if he is willing to sign a new short-term contract with the club.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Since signing for Tottenham, Lloris has gone on to make 373 appearances, in which he has kept 126 clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)

If the club gets their way, the 34-year-old should be able to add more appearances to that tally come next season.
