Tottenham to move for Domenico Berardi after Paulo Fonseca confirmation
According to Italian publication Quotidiano (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are set to act on their interest in Sassuolo winger Domenico Berardi immediately after Paulo Fonseca is confirmed as the manager.
After a frustrating period, Tottenham are finally set to name a successor to Jose Mourinho, who was sacked back in April, with Fonseca, the man who Mourinho replaced at AS Roma, set to take over the vacant hotseat at Spurs. (h/t Express)
Newly-appointed managing director of football, Fabio Paratici had a key role in securing the services of Fonseca to the club after Tottenham had faced setbacks in pursuit of several other candidates. And, the ex-Juventus director is set to continue acting in a swift manner in his new job by launching a move for Berardi, who he has identified as a key target for Tottenham. (h/t Express)
Berardi, 26, is a product of the Sassuolo youth academy and has spent the majority of his career with the Neroverdi barring a brief spell away on loan at Juventus. The versatile winger enjoyed one of his best seasons in 2020/21, plundering 17 goals and setting up eight more in just 30 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Berardi has also been in red hot form for the Italian national team and played a key role in their recent 3-0 demolition of Turkey in the UEFA Euro 2020 opener last week.
Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express) have claimed that the 26-year-old could be available for a transfer for £42.9m. And, Paratici is keen on making a push for the Italian’s services as soon as Fonseca’s appointment is out of the way.

Someone like Berardi can be a very good signing for Tottenham considering that the club lost Gareth Bale this summer upon the expiry of his loan deal. With the likes of Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn not performing consistently enough, the 26-year-old Berardi can relieve some burden off the shoulders of star men Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.
It bodes well that Paratici is intent on getting a deal across the line as soon as possible. Whether he is successful, remains to be seen.
