Transfer News: Tottenham urged to sign Milan Skriniar by Paul Robinson
Speaking on Football Insider (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged the club to go after Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur are said to be in the hunt for a new centre-back this summer with Football.london reporting that the club is keen on someone who can be a leader at the back and marshal the defence.
And Robinson is of the opinion that Skriniar would be the perfect choice for the position. The ex-Spurs man made his statements after Skriniar helped the Slovakian national team to a shock 2-1 win over Poland in the UEFA Euro 2020 this past Monday. (h/t Football.london)
“You can see that he is a leader. He marshalled that back line and was an example to others. He stood out head and shoulders above the rest. It was not just in a defensive sense either. He was a threat going forward as well. His touch and finish for the goal was incredible. It was like an accomplished striker’s.
“He is exactly what Spurs need – a world-class centre-half. I would welcome him with open arms to Spurs. What a player.”
Tottenham’s defence did not always look organised and solid in the season gone by. At times there appeared to a lack of cohesion and a sense of disjointedness within the backline.

Signing someone like Skriniar, who has plenty of experience at this level and at 26, has his best years still ahead of him would be a coup. The problem, though, will be generating funds for his signing. Inter Milan are likely to demand top dollar for their man, even more so if he continues in the similar vein of form in the Euros. Whether Tottenham have the financial muscle to pull of the deal remains to be seen.
