Gareth Bale likens Tottenham ace Tanguy Ndombele to Ronaldinho
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t football.london), ex-Tottenham Hotspur loanee Gareth Bale has named Tanguy Ndombele as a player who surprised him in the 2020/21 season, comparing him to Ronaldinho.
Bale made a return to Tottenham from Real Madrid in the summer last year, signing on a season-long loan deal. The Wales captain enjoyed a solid season after a slow start due to fitness and injury problems, finishing with a return of 16 goals.
Following his stint with the Lilywhites, Bale was asked to name one player that left him surprised and impressed over the course of the campaign. And, the 31-year-old has named Ndombele as the man that stood out, even likening him to Brazilian legend Ronaldinho. (h/t football.london)
“I’d probably say Ndombele this season. I hadn’t seen too much of him when I was watching Spurs games the season before. I think obviously he had an adaption period coming over to England because it’s quite a big jump.
“Just seeing what he does in training and on the pitch, I was very surprised. The amount of ability he has is actually frightening, the stuff he does with the ball kind of reminds me of the things you see Ronaldinho do with the ball. It is quite nice to watch.”
Ndombele has been with Tottenham since 2019, having signed from Olympique Lyon in a club-record transfer. However, he endured a difficult debut season with the club. Things looked better for him the last time out, although there was a dip in form towards the backend of the season.
