Paratici hopes to convince Tottenham chairman Levy over Gennaro Gattuso
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, reputed journalist Duncan Castles has claimed that Tottenham director of football, Fabio Paratici, is still hopeful of convincing chairman Daniel Levy over signing Gennaro Gattuso as the next manager.
Tottenham’s hunt for a new manager has seen a bizarre turn of events with first talks breaking down with Paulo Fonseca only for the club to move for Gattuso. But then, the Lilywhites decided to end their pursuit of the 43-year-old former AC Milan and Napoli manager as well, amid huge backlash from fans. (h/t The Athletic)
Castles shed light upon the circumstances which led to Levy to call off the pursuit of Gattuso after fans started a campaign against the Italian.
“The story leaked from Italy back into England and you had the fan reaction with the social media campaign #NoToGattuso, that forced Levy to respond and call a halt to the agreement with Gattuso, saying that it would be impossible because of the fans’ reaction to go ahead with this appointment.
Despite this development, Castles has insisted that Paratici, who was named the club’s managing director of football only earlier this month, hopes to convince Levy that Gattuso is indeed the right man for the job.
“There have been attempts to fix this situation, it has been suggested to Levy and Tottenham that Gattuso could publicly apologise for those statements that were made several years ago, Tottenham did not accept that. I’m also told that Fabio Paratici still believes that there is a possibility that he can talk Levy around in this.
“And I think that gives you an indication that Paratici hasn’t done his homework on his new boss, because when Levy makes a decision he doesn’t change his mind very often.”
