Erik ten Hag had an interest in the Tottenham job but no approach was made
According to football.london (h/t Express), AFC Ajax manager Erik ten Hag had an interest in the Tottenham Hotspur manager job before his contract extension with the Dutch giants.
Tottenham Hotspur have been in the market for a new manager for two months now, following the sacking of Jose Mourinho in April. And, the 51-year-old Ten Hag has been a rumoured target ever since. However, the club moved on to different candidates after it emerged that the Dutchman’s contract with Ajax was extended amidst the speculations. (h/t Express)
But, things haven’t gone Spurs’ way in search of a manager since with talks breaking down with as many as three candidates – Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso.
These developments mean, Ten Hag is now once back into the fray and, it has now come to light that the 51-year-old was interested in the Tottenham job but there were no approaches made and his contract was then extended.
The report further details that the Dutchman may still be intrigued by the prospect of the job but any move will be complicated because of his contract and the fact that the pre-season for 2021/22 is almost here, which would make Ajax reluctant to let him go.

As things stand, former Wolves’ manager Nuno Espirito Santo is among the names being considered, along with ex-Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde as well. In addition, Belgium national team manager Roberto Martinez also remains on the radar of the club. (h/t Express)
It remains to be seen which way Tottenham decide to go. But a move for Ten Hag may be difficult given the timing.
