Tottenham fans react to Nuno Espirito Santo being linked with manager job
The Daily Mail reported on Thursday that former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo had become the leading contender for the Tottenham Hotspur manager job.
The 47-year-old Nuno is currently without a club after he resigned from Wolves at the end of the 2020/21 season. And, Tottenham, after having faced defeats in pursuit of several other candidates like Brendan Rodgers, Antonio Conte, among others, are said to be preferring the Portuguese to succeed his compatriot Jose Mourinho in the managerial hot-seat.
Indeed, the report goes as far as claiming that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and the club’s newly-appointed Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici are also backing Nuno as the frontrunner.
This development, however, hasn’t seemingly gone down all too well with the Tottenham Hotspur supporters. The fans seem to be not convinced by Nuno because of the way he sets his teams up. Much like Mourinho, the ex-Wolves manager, too, utilises a defence-first approach with the side playing mainly on the counter-attack.
Some sections of Tottenham fans, having had enough of that under Jose, have taken to Twitter to voice their opinion on the matter, making the hashtag “#NoToNuno” trend on social media.
Here we take at some of the reactions from fans as they have their say on whether Nuno should become the next Tottenham boss.

Nuno is nice guy and I wish him the best personally but while this deal clearly not done it still has to be #NoToNuno. Kick up enough of a fuss that it doesn’t happen

Reasons for #NoToNuno
– Dismissed by Wolves (lower than us)
– Was 1 step away from being Palace manager
– plays awful football
– Would involve Mendes ( a toxic agent)Retreat and spread#NoToNuno #NoToMediocrity

Tottenham fans had started a similar campaign to oppose the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso over the last week, which ultimately led to talks breaking down. Whether Spurs go ahead with their interest in Nuno amid a wave of negative reaction remains to be seen.
