Micah Richards puts forth Roberto Mancini as a candidate for the Tottenham job
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail (h/t football.london), former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has claimed that he has been left baffled by Tottenham not going after Roberto Mancini for the manager role.
The north London outfit have been on the lookout for a new manager for over two months now after having sacked Jose Mourinho in April – just a week before the team was scheduled to play the Carabao Cup final.
Former midfielder Ryan Mason saw the season through as Daniel Levy & co. looked for a permanent replacement for Jose. But one is yet to be named even though the pre-season is just over a week away. Numerous managers like Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca, among others, have been linked only for talks to break down.
However, there has been progress made with Nuno Espirito Santo, who was available after leaving Wolves at the end of the season. Richards, however, has thrown Mancini’s name into contention, while claiming that it has been baffling to see Spurs not go after the ex-Man City manager. (h/t football.london)
“When I watch Italy’s games at this Euros, I wonder why there is not the same buzz around their current manager and why Premier League clubs have not been doing all they can to recruit him.
“I suspect some people will accuse me of bias when I talk about Roberto Mancini but my relationship with him has got nothing to do with my views. You are watching one of the world’s best managers in his prime and it baffles me why, for instance, Tottenham and Everton have not targeted him.”

Mancini has, indeed, done a sterling job with the Italian national team. The Azzurri haven’t lost a single game of football since late September in 2018 under the 56-year-old and have been playing some lovely football at the ongoing Euros.
While The Telegraph did claim that Mancini was someone that Tottenham have admiration for, it does seem like the club is pushing ahead to appoint Nuno as the next permanent manager.
