Steven Gerrard on Tottenham wishlist despite Nuno talks for the manager role
According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur director Fabio Paratici could make a ‘surprise strike’ to sign Rangers boss Steven Gerrard as the next manager.
The hunt for a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho as the next manager of Tottenham has carried on for more than two months now. Earlier this week, though, there seemed to be a breakthrough with the Daily Mail reporting that Nuno Espirito Santo, who quit Wolves at the end of the last season, had emerged as the frontrunner for the job.
These claims were backed by the ever-reliable Alasdair Gold who claimed that after extensive talks, the 47-year-old Portuguese tactician could be named the next Tottenham boss imminently. The Sun, though, cites claims from a club source stating that there are numerous challenges to be resolved before an appointment is made.
Amidst all this, Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has thrown Steven Gerrard’s name in the mix as well, claiming that the chances of the former England midfielder becoming the next Tottenham boss are rising, with Paratici lining up a ‘surprise strike’.
The 41-year-old Gerrard started his managerial career at Rangers in 2018 and led them to the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/21 term. The Gers have played some eye-catching football under the former Liverpool captain while he has not been afraid of throwing in youngsters into the deep end – something that Daniel Levy wants from the next Tottenham boss.

While Nuno may be a more experienced manager, Gerrard would be more aligned with the vision and demands of Levy, at the moment. However, whether there is any truth to the claims made by Galetti remains to be seen.
