Transfer News: Tottenham starlet Harvey White a loan target for Portsmouth
According to The News, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harvey White has emerged as a loan transfer target for EFL League One club Portsmouth this summer.
A product of the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy, White has risen through the ranks and is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at the club. The 19-year-old made his first-team debut in November last year in a UEFA Europa League clash and featured once more in a FA Cup game in January before heading out on loan to Portsmouth.
During his time with Pompey, the midfielder made 22 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and setting up one more. However, only six of those 22 appearances were from the start, with just one coming under new manager Danny Cowley, who replaced Kenny Jackett in mid-March.
While White may have not started regularly once Cowley took over, the Portsmouth boss still used him off the bench quite frequently and is still intent on taking White on for another loan spell the report claims.
The Pompey boss, in an interview previously, had revealed that he spoke to Spurs’ interim manager Ryan Mason about the possibility of taking White on loan for the upcoming year.
“We know Ryan Mason really well actually, now he’s Tottenham manager we can say we’re good friends! We’ve done some of our coaching badges together, we’ve got to know him well and he’s a really great guy.
“Now he’s the key man at Tottenham we’ve asked the question and had a conversation. We don’t know if we will be privileged enough to make those decisions, but on behalf of the club we’ve enquired because he’s a young player on a massive upward curve who’s only going to get better and better.”

A loan transfer for White for the next season would make a lot of sense. With the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko, Giovani Lo Celso and Oliver Skipp, who is back after a successful loan stint with Norwich City, ahead of him, the youngster would benefit from playing regularly under a manager who has gotten a good look at him previously.
