Kalvin Phillips backed to leave Leeds United for Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking to ThisIsFutbol (h/t Leeds Live), former Premier League football Carlton Palmer has backed Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips to make the switch to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
A product of the Leeds United youth setup, the 25-year-old Phillips has grown leaps and bounds since making his first-team debut in 2015 as a teenager. The midfielder has racked up 211 appearances for the Whites already, scoring 13 goals and setting up 12 more.
Phillips played an integral role in Leeds earning back promotion to the Premier League after a 16-year wait and was one of their best players on show during the 2020/21 campaign. This resulted in the midfielder earning a call-up to the England national team with him already making 11 appearances for the Three Lions, establishing himself as a regular in the ongoing UEFA Euro 2020.
Recently, Italian publication Tutto Juve (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post) claimed that Tottenham had expressed an interest in signing Phillips in the ongoing transfer window. And Palmer, who played for Leeds in the past, has backed the England star to make the switch should Spurs come calling for him.
“If Tottenham come knocking, no disrespect to Leeds United, I think Leeds United are a massive club. I’m a big admirer of Leeds United. But if you’ve got an opportunity to go and play at Spurs, you’re going to want to leave Leeds to go and play at Spurs.”
Tottenham could more than do with a midfielder of Phillips’ ilk. With Moussa Sissoko ageing and Harry Winks not delivering as expected, refreshing the midfield options this summer would be a good move by the north Londoners.

Phillips, who has displayed that he can do the dirty work off the ball and offer quality when in possession, could be the ideal foil for someone like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at Tottenham. A move for him will not be easy though given how highly he is valued by Leeds.
