Tottenham ace Japhet Tanganga provides an update on his injury situation
Speaking to the club’s official website (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur youngster Japhet Tanganga has issued an update on his recovery status from an ankle injury.
Tanganga, a product of the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy, broke into the first-team in 2020, during Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge. However, the young defender has had to battle a series of injuries, that have hampered his development, stopping him from establishing himself as a regular in the starting XI.
Tanganga, to date, has made 24 appearances for the Spurs’ senior team. The defender missed close to 20 games due to different injuries. And even though he got some games under Ryan Mason towards the end of the season, he picked up another ankle injury ahead of the final day of the season against Leicester City.
Now five weeks into his recovery, the 22-year-old has opened up on how he is progressing as he hopes to put his injury woes behind in the upcoming season.
“I feel good! I feel like I’m not far away and I believe I’ll be back sooner than perhaps some people think. “I’m on the pitch doing my running, getting fitter and hopefully I’ll be back soon.
“Obviously you sacrifice holidays to stay here and just get ready so I haven’t really had an opportunity to get away anywhere, but it’s fine because I’m hoping it’s going to be a big season for myself compared to how it went last year. I want to stay fit and just play as many games as I possibly can.”

A player with great potential, Tanganga has been unlucky with his injuries so far. Hopefully, all that will be a thing of the past for the 22-year-old in the upcoming season. With the pre-season set to begin in less than a week, it remains to be seen when the youngster could rejoin training with the team.
