Transfer News: Tottenham star Harry Winks monitored by Aston Villa

According to transfer news from The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is being monitored by Premier League rivals Aston Villa over a possible summer move.

The 25-year-old midfielder is a product of the Tottenham youth academy and made his debut as early as 2014, when he was just 18 years old. However, it was only after 2016 that he became a regular fixture in the first-team and has managed 173 appearances till date, in which he has four goals and assists apiece. (h/t Transfermarkt)

However, Winks endured a difficult 2020/21 season during which he fell out of favour with manager Jose Mourinho. Indeed, the 25-year-old England international managed just nine Premier League starts over the course of the campaign, with two of those coming after Mourinho was sacked in April earlier this year.

And, it seems like, despite his decline in stature at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the past year, Winks still has fans in the Premier League in the form of Aston Villa.

The report states that Dean Smith’s side are intent on bolstering their midfield options amid interest in their mainstay Douglas Luiz from Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma. To that end, they have identified Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse as a potential target but are also keeping tabs on Harry Winks as well as Norwich City ace Todd Cantwell.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Winks still has three years left on his contract with Tottenham. However, given that his standing within the side is not the same it once was, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see the 25-year-old leave this summer, especially considering that the FIFA World Cup will be coming up next year.

It now remains to be seen whether Villa firm up their interest in the England international or look elsewhere.
