Man City boss Pep Guardiola claims big-money signing difficult amid Harry Kane links

Speaking to TV3 (h/t Mirror), Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that his club might not sign a new striker this summer due to the prices being quoted, amid strong links to Tottenham star Harry Kane.

Manchester City are in the market for a new striker this summer following the exit of club legend Sergio Aguero upon the expiry of his contract. This has seen the Premier League champions get heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur superstar Kane, who enjoyed one of his most prolific campaigns last time out winning the PL Golden Boot and the Playmaker awards.

However, signing Kane could cost Manchester City well in excess of £100m this summer. The same applies to their other target, Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund as well. As a result, Guardiola has now claimed that the club might not sign a new striker at all, with big-money signings extremely difficult to pull off. (h/t Mirror)

“At the prices we are not going to buy any strikers, it is impossible, we cannot afford it. It is impossible. All clubs are struggling financially; we are not an exception. We have Gabriel [Jesus], Ferran [Torres] who has been incredible in this position, we have young players in the academy, we play many times with a false nine.

“I don’t know what is going to happen. Maybe we are going to buy but maybe we are not going to buy a striker for next season. Today there is more chance we aren’t going to buy a striker for next season.”

This is sure to come as music for the ears of Tottenham fans. There are not many clubs that can afford Kane in the current financial climate, with City being select few among them. However, with Guardiola claiming that it will be difficult for them as well, there could be a chance that the England captain ends up staying at the club.
