Tottenham prioritise on Harry Kane backup; move expected for Danny Ings
According to transfer news from The Athletic (subscription required), Tottenham are prioritising signing a backup for Harry Kane, with Danny Ings as a possible target. However, Southampton will only let go of their star man if they receive a huge fee.
Harry Kane has somewhat put Spurs in a huge spot. The striker has opened up on his desire to leave the club over the summer after enduring another shoddy campaign. While he was at his personal best, Spurs could not convert it into silverware.
Manchester City have been the club most interested in our captain but Spurs are holding their ground. Under no circumstance do they want to let go of the star striker. Regardless of Kane’s future, Spurs will need a new striker next season. After the departure of Carlos Vinicius, Kane remains the only striker in the side.
Signing a backup for Kane is said to be a priority at this point for the club. Danny Ings is a name that has been doing the rounds and Spurs have also been mentioned in the same circles. However, a move for the 28-year-old Southampton hitman will be difficult unless Spurs stump up a good offer. They are prepared to keep him for a year and lose him for free the next.

In Ings, Spurs can get a tried and tested Premier League performer who has scored with consistency at Southampton. Even if Kane ends up staying, Spurs should try to go after Ings. However, they should not pay over the odds for a player who has only a year left on his contract.
