Transfer News: Tottenham will have to pay €40m to sign Mikkel Damsgaard
According to transfer news from the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur have learned what it will take for them to sign Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard this summer.
Damsgaard came through the youth ranks at FC Nordsjaelland. He left his boyhood club to join Sampdoria last year and has impressed in Italy. The 20-year-old has managed two goals and four assists from 35 Serie A games in his debut season.
He followed it up a brilliant run in the UEFA Euro 2020 with the Denmark national team, scoring two goals and setting up one more his teammate as the Danes went as far as the semifinals. This has put him on the radars of several top teams like Barcelona, Juventus, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. (h/t Mirror)
Asked about the versatile attacking midfielder’s valuation, Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero had claimed that it would rise up to €40 million in case he scored again in the tournament after having done so in the group stage against Russia.
“I’ll tell you it’s a fair price, today at least €30million (£26m). But if he scores again he will reach €40m (£34million).”
And, that is exactly what Damsgaard did, scoring a stunning free-kick in the extra-time defeat to England in the semi-finals, meaning his value is now up to €40 million.

Considering the way some of the Tottenham forwards like Steven Bergwijn, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura failed to perform last season, adding someone young and dynamic like Damsgaard, who is coming on the back of a positive campaign at the continental competition would be a good move.
But the competition from other clubs, as well as, the valuation, considering that he has just one full season at the highest level could be a bone of contention.
