Transfer News: Tottenham set to rival Arsenal for Houssem Aouar
According to transfer news from Le10 Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham are considering the possibility of launching a move for Olympique Lyon midfielder and Arsenal target Houssem Aouar.
Aouar came through the youth ranks at Lyon and broke into the first-team in 2016. Since then, he has been a regular presence with the senior squad gradually going onto establish himself as a constant starter for Les Gones, making over 150 appearances in which he has more than 60 direct goal contributions.
The 22-year-old featured 33 times across all competition for Lyon in the 2020/21 season, finishing with eight goals and four assists, helping the team to a top-four finish in Ligue 1.
Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Aouar, who has one cap for the French national team. In fact, the report claims that they had made a bid for the midfielder last week, with Lyon looking to cash in on their prized asset due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Aouar’s availability this summer, though, has now seemingly alerted Tottenham as well, who are now ready to challenge their arch-rivals for the signing of the midfield star. (h/t Daily Mail)
Considering that Moussa Sissoko is not getting any younger and Dele Alli endured a poor season last time out, adding someone like Aouar, who can do the job in multiple roles in the middle of the park would be a solid move by Tottenham. At 23, the Frenchman has his best years in front of him and should improve further with experience.
