Harry Kane issues emotional statement after Euro 2020 heartbreak

Taking to Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur superstar and England captain Harry Kane has issued an emotional statement after the team’s UEFA Euro 2020 heartbreak on Sunday night.

It was a case of so near yet so far for Kane and England as they reached their first-ever European Championships finals but were not able to put Italy away, leading to heartbreak in the finals at Wembley.

England were off to the perfect start with Luke Shaw scoring in less than two minutes. However, they ended up surrendering the initiative, allowing Italy to grow into the contest and equalise in the second half, before forcing the game into extra time and penalties, where the Azzurri eventually prevailed despite some heroics from Jordan Pickford.

It was a difficult moment to swallow for the England players and the fans. And Kane, who came so close to leading this talented bunch of stars to their first major trophy in 55 years, has now spoken out on social media after the heartbreak.

“Last night hurts. It’ll hurt for a long time. But we’ve come so far and broken down so many barriers that this is not the end. We win together, lose together and will regroup together for the World Cup. Thanks for all your support this summer.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s official Twitter account responded to Kane’s message saying:

“We’re so proud of you, Harry.”
