Tottenham Hotspur fans feel sorry for Harry Kane after England lose to Italy in 2020 UEFA Euro final

It was a proud moment for Tottenham Hotspur fans around the world seeing Harry Kane lead England out of the tunnel against Italy in the UEFA Euro 2020 final.

Things were going pretty well for the 27-year-old until the penultimate match against the Italians. Kane had scored in all knockout stage games for the Three Lions up until that point.

With 4 goals already under his belt, some were even hoping that a couple of goals would land him another Golden Boot at a major tournament. But it was not to be, for England as well as for Kane.

Luke Shaw sent an entire nation into euphoria after opening the scoring in the 3rd minute of the game. They held onto the lead until the 67th minute when Leonardo Bonucci became the oldest player to score in a Euro final.

England lose final despite Wembley advantage

The match went the distance and penalties were required to separate the two sides. Gareth Southgate brought on Manchester United wingers Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho late in extra time.

That decision was surely made with the shoot-outs in mind, as both of them took the spot-kick. Unfortunately for England, both of them did not manage to score as well.

Kane dispatched his penalty with unerring accuracy and beat Gianluigi Donnarumma, who dived the right way. But apart from that, the striker had a very quiet game, recording no shots in the entirety of the two hours.

In an odd sight, teenager Bukayo Saka was given the responsibility of taking England’s last penalty. The Italian stopper saved the shot, giving Italy a 3-2 win in the shoot-out.

But Spurs fans felt that Kane was doing the most he can throughout the knockout rounds, and that he was let down by his teammates yet again; a story many feel is also true for him at Tottenham.
