Transfer News: Tottenham among clubs interested in signing Ozan Kabak

According to reports in Germany (h/t football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are among a host of clubs that are looking at the possibility of signing Schalke defender Ozan Kabak.

The 20-year-old centre-back started out at the academy of Turkish giants Galatasaray and rose rapidly through the ranks, making his senior debut in 2018. After 18 appearances, Kabak was snapped up by German outfit VfB Stuttgart in January 2019.

The centre-back spent only six months at the club before Schalke came calling in the summer of 2019. And while the club’s performances were poor since, Kabak had been one of the few positives on the field for them. To date, he has played 42 times for the club, scoring three goals in the process. Kabak left Schalke on loan during the January transfer window earlier this year, signing for Liverpool. After a few initial jitters, the Turkish international grew into a regular at Anfield and played a part in the Reds finishing the season within the top four in the Premier League.

Now back at Schalke, who have been relegated from the Bundesliga, Kabak has been granted permission to secure a transfer away from the club. And, it seems like a number of clubs are after his signature, with Tottenham among those. (h/t football.london)

The heart of the defence is something that Tottenham need to bolster this summer due to the problems from last term. Toby Alderweireld is not getting any younger while both Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez remain liabilities. With Japhet Tanganga struggling with fitness problems and Joe Rodon hardly featuring last season, a new defender is the need of the hour.

Kabak, to that end, can be an option worth looking at Spurs. However, the club will have to battle with Leicester City, Newcastle United, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig for his transfer.

Furthermore, it is claimed that the upcoming Sunday has been set as a deadline for Kabak to complete a transfer. So, Spurs must act quickly in case he is someone that they intend to sign.
