Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur make an offer for Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini
According to CalcioMercato (h/t Birmingham Live), Tottenham Hotspur look set to make a move for Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini this summer and are said to have made an offer for the shot-stopper’s services.
The 26-year-old has attracted attention from a number of Premier League clubs this summer. The likes of both Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers have also made an offer for the goalkeeper’s services.
The Italian has had previous experience of playing in England. He spent two years at the Manchester United youth academy before moving to Aston Villa. He made 20 appearances for the Villans in the Championship, keeping six clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)
He fell out of favour with Steve Bruce and moved to Atalanta on loan in 2017. This return to his homeland gave Gollini a new lease of life and he has gone on to play a big role in the Italian side’s recent successes. He made the deal permanent a year later and has so far made 118 appearances for the club, keeping 31 clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Capped once by the Italian senior side, Atalanta is seeking €20million for his services. While both Everton and Wolves are interested, it is difficult to see what Gollini will gain from moving to them.
Doesn’t hold water!
The Toffees already have Jordan Pickford who is coming off the back of an impressive Euros with England. Wolves may have lost Rui Patricio but have already replaced him with Jose Sa. It is difficult to see them go big on another shot-stopper in the same month.
The situation at Spurs could however be different. Hugo Lloris has held the fort for close to a decade but is now ageing. With just 12 months left on his contract, he is set to discuss his future at the club this summer. With Spurs seeking to build a younger team, it remains to be seen if they will make their move for Gollini.

Gollini, to his credit, has made a name for himself at Atalanta. Fabio Paratici will be aware of the 26-year-old’s exploits from his time at Juventus. While the player has had his moments, it remains to be seen if he is capable of meeting the expectations at Spurs. The club is better off looking elsewhere for a replacement for Lloris.
