Nuno Espirito Santo rules out Tottenham return for Gareth Bale
Speaking in his first press conference as the manager of Tottenham Hotspur (h/t football.london), Nuno Espirito Santo has ruled out the possibility of Gareth Bale returning to the club this summer.
Nuno took over the reins as the manager of Tottenham earlier this month after a long search for Jose Mourinho’s permanent replacement. The former Wolves boss will be taking charge of his first match later today when Spurs face Leyton Orient in a pre-season friendly.
The manager spoke to the press on the eve of the game, touching upon various topics including transfer incoming and outcomings. During the presser, Nuno was asked for an update on the situation of Gareth Bale.
The Real Madrid star returned to Tottenham after eight years last summer, signing on a season-long loan deal. The 31-year-old started slowly, but was able to end the campaign on a strong note, finishing with 16 goals in total in all competitions.
With his loan deal now run out, Bale is back at Real Madrid and Nuno has claimed that the Welsh wing-wizard will not be coming back to Tottenham for another spell.
“He will not be part of our squad.”
The Portuguese tactician did add that Tottenham will need to make new signings in order to compete at the top.
“I believe at the same time it is not easy to improve our squad but we need to, so we need to be very clinical on the players that join us and can help us. Yes, we need to bring in some things that we don’t already have. We have to bring in people who besides being a good player is a good human being because that is where everything starts.”

The idea of Bale returning to Tottenham did have some romanticism about it. But the club needs to start a fresh journey under Nuno and while Bale may have had his moments last term, he was found wanting on the big occasions. Time to move on.
