Tottenham star Davinson Sanchez targeted by Sevilla
Football.london reports that Spanish side Sevilla are interested in landing Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez. In case the 25-year-old defender ends up leaving the club, Paratici will look to sign a replacement.
Sanchez’s underwhelming Spurs tenure
Tottenham signed Sanchez in the summer of 2017. The player came into the Spurs camp with heavy expectation as he was named Ajax’s best player the season before. He was also the backbone of the Ajax squad that reached the UEFA Europa League final.
The North Londoners broke their transfer record at that time for the 21-year-old. They paid Ajax a whopping £42m, to acquire the services of Sanchez. Then manager Mauricio Pochettino backed his new signing to become ‘one of the best centre-backs in the world’ in the future.
However, it quite hasn’t worked out for the Colombian international. Still 25, the player has room to develop. But it is a matter of how much patience Spurs can show. Sanchez has shown patches of good form but he always has a mistake in him.
While he won the trust of Mourinho towards the manager’s latter stages of his Spurs tenure, he still ended up playing just 18 league games last season. So far in his Spurs career, Sanchez has played 101 league matches, keeping 27 clean sheets.
Better for both parties?
A departure could prove to be beneficial for both parties.
Sanchez never really managed to put his stamp in the league. Still 25, a move to a different league could rejuvenate his career. If the Sevilla move materializes, he would even get to play Champions League football.
For Spurs, it seems like the club are looking to revamp the spine of the team. Earlier, Football.london reported that Dier and Doherty are up for sale. While The Athletic, reported that the likes of Kounde and Romero are on Spurs’ radar.
