Ryan Sessegnon to receive a lifeline under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo

According to the Express, Ryan Sessegnon is set to compete for places in the Tottenham first-team under new management. Nuno Espirito Santo is set to revive the left-back’s career at N17. Sessegnon could seal a starting position after having seen his career in north London fail to take off as expected.

On Ryan Sessegnon

Sessegnon is a product of Fulham’s academy. In 2016, he made his first-team debut for the Whites. The player was just 15-years-old when he started training with the first team. For a brilliant campaign, the player was named in the PFA Championship Team of 2017.

At the age of 16, he became the youngest player ever to be inducted into the team of the season. Since then, he went on to collect Championship Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season and second appearance in Championship Team of the Season.

Tottenham Hotspur signed Sessegnon in 2019. However, it has not quite ticked yet for the young prospect. He only managed 6 appearances in the Premier League for Spurs in his debut season. TSG Hoffenheim signed him on loan in 2020.

In an interview with Evening Standard earlier this year, Sessegnon revealed his future aspirations. He said that he aims at ‘breaking into the first-team. However, he won’t shy away from a move away from Spurs for a starting spot.

Nuno, a big admirer

Tottenham Hotspur revealed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager earlier this month. The Portuguese is said to be a big admirer of Sessegnon. The Express report that Nuno tried to sign him multiple times while at Wolves.

Sessegnon could be a perfect full-back profile in a Nuno Espirito Santo system. During his Wolves career, the likes of Matt Doherty, Jonny Castro and Rayan Ait-Nouri were given the freedom to arrive in the attacking box. However, Sessegnon will have to compete with Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies for the left-back spot.
