According to The Telegraph, Tottenham superstar Harry Kane will miss the start of the 2021/22 Premier League. The striker has been given extra time to return to full match fitness. The news comes as a huge blow to Spurs fans, as the club will be facing champions Manchester City in their first game. The fixture will be played on August 15th.

The England striker had arguably his best campaign last season. While it did not go as planned collectively, Kane managed elite individual output for Spurs. He racked up 23 goals and 14 assists in 20/21. The player bagged both, the ‘Golden Boot‘ and the ‘Playmaker of the season award‘. However, it seems the accolades came at an expense.

The 27-year-old was one of the busiest players for Tottenham. He made 49 appearances for the club last season, playing 3.982 minutes.

Adding to that, he started every game for England during UEFA Euro 2020.

Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, claims that the schedule took a toll on the England captain. Kane, who is currently attending his brother’s wedding, can be termed ‘out’ of the opener ahead of the new season to get himself ‘fully’ fit. The report adds the case will be the same if Kane decides to switch clubs.

Earlier, The Sun, reported that Tottenham are thinking about letting Kane go. Adding that Daniel Levy is set to let him leave after a mega £160m bid from Manchester City.

However, journalist David Ornstein via the Athletic denied any intent from Spurs, claiming that many staff members were surprised by the news circling around.
