Harry Kane exit could lead Antoine Griezmann to Tottenham
According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur could sign Antoine Griezmann. The report claims that the North London club could launch a bid for the Barcelona star if Harry Kane departs. The La Liga side are desperate to move Griezmann on, as new signing Memphis Depay is yet to be registered.
Situation at Tottenham
Daniel Levy had been bullish in his attempts to keep Harry Kane. The Guardian claimed that Spurs have rejected a bid from Man City worth at least £100m.
However, The Sun claimed that the Spurs chairman has changed his mind, adding that Spurs will let Kane go after a £160m offer from Manchester City. It suggested that the player was ‘delighted’ by the news.
Kane’s move to City could prove to be the catalyst for bringing Griezmann to Spurs.
Griezmann’s Verdict
Barcelona signed Griezmann in 2019. Having been signed for a humungous £107m, the player had an underwhelming debut season. Appearing 35 times in the league, he only managed 9 goals and 4 assists.
He looked back to his old self last season. In the 20/21 La Liga campaign, Griezmann racked up 13 goals and 8 assists. However, it seems it still was not good enough for manager Ronald Koeman. T
he 30-year-old finds himself in the middle of another transfer saga. The move is reported to be inspired by Barcelona’s tricky wage situation. According to the Daily star, the Spanish side have been forced to sell several high earners.
A dialogue between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid recently emerged. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, both clubs were in ‘advanced talks’ for a potential swap deal involving Saul Niguez and Griezmann, who would move back to his former club.
A report from Sport (h/t Express) doubled down on those claims, adding that Antoine Griezmann wants to return to Atletico Madrid. Whether that hampers Tottenham’s plans, in case of Kane’s exit, remains to be seen.
