Spurs have reached an agreement with Al-Duhail for the transfer of Toby Alderweireld
Tottenham Hotspur via Twitter have confirmed the departure of Toby Alderweireld. The official statement read that Toby Alderweireld has signed for Al Duhail SC, a club based in Qatar, adding that the club wishes ‘Toby’ all the best for the future.
Reactions
The deal was first revealed by journalist Mike McGrath via The Telegraph (Subscription Required), stating that the deal is subject to agreement on personal terms and a medical in Qatar.
Soon after the club’s official statement, Toby Alderweireld posted a video compilation of his Spurs days with the caption “Enjoyed every minute of it”. The player followed it up by penning down an emotional message to the Spurs fans. The statement reminisced about his 6-year tenure at N17, and he concluded it by saying that club will always be a part of him.
Former centre-back partner, Jan Vertonghen, reacted to the announcement by the following tweet –

Journalist, Fabrizio Romano acknowledged the move. However, he also went on to suggest that a new centre-back is imminent for Tottenham Hotspur.

Toby Alderweireld replacements?
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to several centre-backs this summer. As per Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are in negotiations with Atalanta for Cristian Romero. However, the likes of Tomiyasu, Milenkovic and Zouma are also on the radar of the club.
The Athletic (Subscription Required) reported Southampton defender Jannick Vestergaard as a possibility for Spurs last week., while The Times (Subscription Required) reported more potential outgoings with the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Joe Rodon can see their way out this summer.
