Transfer News: Lille’s Sven Botman no longer considered an option by Tottenham Hotspur
Journalist Robin Bairner (h/t Express) has provided the latest on Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Sven Botman. Despite Spurs’ interest early in the transfer window, the player is no longer considered as an option.
The report adds that Atalanta are favourites to sign the centre-back, with the likes of West Ham, Newcastle and Norwich also keen on the youngster.
French outlet L’Equipe (h/t Express) reported back in May about Premier League clubs’ interest in Botman. The report added Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool as potential buyers.
Back in February 2021, even Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Tottenham were interested in him in January. However, the latest report suggests that the player is not on the club’s radar.
On Sven Botman
Sven Botman came through the ranks of Ajax. At the age of 18, he made his senior team debut for the club.
Lille signed Botman in 2020. The player was given a five-year contract. Since then, he has made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 club and has impressed during their Ligue 1-winning campaign.
According to WhoScored.com, up until February of last campaign, no centre-back helped keep more clean sheets than Botman among Europe’s top five leagues.
He was an important part of Lille’s squad last season. The defender played 37 games and helped the club to the Ligue 1 title. Along with Jose Fonte, the 21-year-old centre-back was the part of the defence that conceded just 23 goals in the league.
Tottenham looking elsewhere
Tottenham Hotspur have been negotiating for Atalanta’s Cristian Romero. Fabrizio Romano has reported last week that the player has agreed on personal terms with the club. However, Atalanta and Spurs have not reached an agreement.
