Tottenham to improve their bid as Romero set to resume training with Atalanta

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported the new development in Tottenham’s pursuit of Cristian Romero. The saga has another twist. According to the journalist, Atalanta have called up the player to resume training on Monday. However, the player is hoping to move to Tottenham.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have been in talks with Atalanta. The Lilywhites are set to improve their bid for the player. The improved bid will guarantee around €50m for Cristian Romero, who wants to make the switch to Spurs.

Romano adds that Barcelona have not had any official bid or even talks regarding the player.

The departure of Toby Alderweireld could have prompted desperation at Tottenham to sign a new centre-back. However, Atalanta would also be aware of this development. The club could’ve sensed the desperation and might be holding out until Spurs agree to their demands.

Could Cristian Romero improve Tottenham?

Cristian Romero is coming off one of his most productive campaigns. The centre-back played 31 games in Serie A for Atalanta. He was also a part of the club’s UEFA Champions League fixtures. Romero was awarded the defender of the season by Serie A.

He then continued his top form over the Summer. The 23-year-old was a part of Argentina’s Copa America squad. The nation went on to win the prestigious trophy. Romero started the final and helped his team secure a clean sheet and a 1-0 win over Brazil.

Cristian Romero alongside Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon could certainly improve Tottenham’s spine.
