Tottenham Hotspur closer than ever to the signature of Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu
Italian outlet, Calciomercato.io ( h/t Football.london) reported the latest on Tottenham and their search for a centre-back. The report suggests that Spurs still have an interest in Takehiro Tomiyasu. The club are getting closer and closer to meeting the demands of Bologna.
The deal is still far from complete. The report mentions that issues related to ‘terms of payment’ needs to be resolved.
Tottenham have submitted a €20million (excluding bonuses) bid for Tomiyasu. However, the Italian side have turned down the offer.
This does not mean Tottenham have ruled out Cristian Romero. The report suggests that the North London club are looking at the possibility of signing both players.
Who should Tottenham rather sign, Takehiro Tomiyasu or Cristian Romero?
Journalist Fabrizio Romano via Twitch (h/t Football.london) mentions that he is confident that the club would get the deal done for Cristian Romero, adding that he is the priority.
The negotiations with Atalanta have been reported for quite a while now. It might not make sense for the club to drop the interest suddenly.

However, signing both Takehiro Tomiyasu and Cristian Romero would certainly not be a bad idea. Their current roster includes Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga. Rodon, 23 and Tanganga, 22 are still relatively young and inexperienced. Dier and Sanchez have struggled for consistency in recent campaigns.
The club will also compete in four different competitions next season – Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and the inaugural UEFA Conference League. There could be enough game time for a player to impress Nuno Espirito Santo and seal the starting XI berth.
