Bayern Munich enter race for Tottenham target Marcel Sabitzer
According to BILD (h/t Express), Bayern Munich have entered the race for Tottenham target Marcel Sabitzer. Negotiations are said to be underway between Bayern and RB Leipzig as Julian Nagelsmann eyes a reunion with his former player. That could mean Spurs ending up missing out on the Austrian.
There’s a good reason both these clubs are after Sabitzer. During his time at Leipzig, he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga. He was one of the cornerstones of Leipzig’s fairytale march to the semi-final of the Champions League in 2020. The Austrian has amassed 52 goals and 42 assists in 227 appearances for the club in all competitions so far.
He was also a part of the Austrian side that impressed in the Euros until they were knocked out in the round of 16. Sabitzer is a versatile midfielder who can be deployed in a variety of roles. Since April, Spurs are said to have been after the player as they wanted to add some competition in the midfield.
However, the Lilywhites don’t seem to be the only club after Sabitzer. German giants Bayern Munich have made their interest known and are already negotiating a deal for him. Sabitzer is also in the last year of his current deal at Leipzig and does not want to extend his stay. Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan are also interested in him. (h/t Express)
