Transfer News: AS Roma to battle Tottenham Hotspur for Mikkel Damsgaard
According to Daily Mirror (h/t Sky Sports), Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma are willing to make an offer for Sampdoria starlet and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Mikkel Damsgaard.
Earlier this week, a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Express) claimed that Spurs had made an opening bid for the Danish winger believed to be in the region of £17million. But that may not be enough to land him.
The report went on to add that Spurs needed to up their offer in order to get closer to Sampdoria’s £34million valuation. But it now seems like Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy may have to compete with a familiar face in Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese manager was infamously fired by the club back in April, just a few days before the club’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City. That meant the inexperienced Ryan Mason took charge of the final, which City went on to win.
Mou to spoil Levy’s plans?
Firing a manager of Mourinho’s calibre just days before a big final clearly indicated that there was no love lost between Mourinho and the club’s hierarchy. Not to mention, it could have been the club’s first major trophy since 2008.
But since then, Spurs have appointed Nuno Espirito Santo after a long managerial chase. On the other hand, Jose, the former Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Inter Milan manager, has taken over the reins at Roma.
He could foil Spurs transfer plans if Roma formalize their interest and Spurs are indeed serious about signing the Denmark international. Damsgaard was impressive for De Rod-Hvide at the 2020 UEFA Euros.
