Tottenham fans pay their respect to new Spurs club ambassador Michael Dawson
Tottenham Hotspur, in an official statement on their website, have named Michael Dawson as the new club ambassador following his retirement from playing football.
Spurs fans are well aware of the Englishman who captained the club in the 2012/13 as well as the 2013/14 seasons. He joined the club as a 21-year-old back in 2005 from Nottingham Forest.
Dawson then went on to make 324 appearances for the club over the next nine and a half years before leaving to join Hull City in the summer of 2014. Four years later, a move to Forest followed – which is now the last club he played for before hanging up his boots.
The club have acted quickly to name him as one of the club’s ambassadors- an impressive list which includes the likes of Dawson’s former teammate Ledley King, as well as legends such as Gary Mabbutt MBE and Ossie Ardiles.
Dawson calls it a day
The club statement lays down the roles the 37-year-old Englishman would be fulfilling at Tottenham, including interaction with fans on and off social media. An excerpt reads:
“The 37-year-old will fulfil a role that will see him support the work of the Club, its Foundation and charitable partners within the local community, have a regular presence across Club digital channels, add value to our commercial partnerships and engage with our fanbase both at home and abroad.”
His first appearance as the club ambassador will be when Spurs take on Arsenal in the Mind Series double-header later on Sunday. £5 from each match ticket of this unique series will go to Mind, UK’s leading mental health charity.
