Transfer News: Manchester City to offer Tottenham Hotspur-linked Raheem Sterling new contract
According to a report by The Sun (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester City are set to restart contract talks with Raheem Sterling, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The 26-year-old winger has two years left on his current deal that expires in 2023. Apart from Spurs, Arsenal also share an interest in the City forward who has 292 appearances for the club so far.
Sterling broke off with his agent and handled a part of his last negotiations by himself, but failed to reach a conclusion with the Citizens. The Premier League champions are now set to begin talks with him again. (h/t Daily Mail)
The report adds that despite signing Jack Grealish, City are interested in keeping the former Liverpool wide man in their ranks. He endured a tough time last season when he was being benched by Phil Foden down the left-hand side on several occasions.
Sterling to Spurs looks tough
And with the addition of Aston Villa’s star player, Grealish, down that side, things may get tougher for him. While Tottenham are said to be interested in Sterling, an alternate report from Daily Mail indicates that the England international is not too keen on the move.
But for Spurs fans, it’s nothing that should dampen their mood ahead of the new season. Spurs already have Son Heung-min own the left flank along with Steven Bergwijn. Moreover, the club concluded a deal that saw Bryan Gil arrive at N17 from Sevilla.
Sterling currently earns £300-a-week at City. Even if he took a wage cut at Spurs, it would still be a considerable addition to the wage bill. For now, the Lilywhites should be happy with their business.
