Nuno Espirito Santo explains why Tanguy Ndombele sat out for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal
After leaving Tanguy Ndombele out of the squad against Arsenal, coach Nuno Espirito explained in an interview (h/t football.london) that the decision was taken because it is ‘not yet the moment’ for him to play for Tottenham Hotspur.
The Frenchman became a father during this pre-season. But ever since his return, he has missed each and every game for the club, sparking uncertainty amongst the fanbase regarding his fitness and future.
Addressing such concerns after the game against the Gunners, Santo revealed that Ndombele is fit. However, he was left out because the Portuguese manager doesn’t think he’s ready to play yet.
“We have all the players, we have to assess all the individual aspects of each and every one of the players. Tanguy is not with us today. He is not injured but we consider it is not yet the moment for him to be part of the game.”
Ndombele to head out?
If it’s not an injury, it could be that Ndombele is considering his future at N17. The report by football.london has mentioned exactly that, which comes as a shame because Spurs paid a club-record £55million for him just two years ago.
A report by ESPN (h/t Metro) last month even claimed that Spurs have offered the former Olympique Lyonnaise man back to Lyon in a swap deal for the then-Arsenal target, Houssem Aouar.
Things have cooled down on that front, at least on the exterior. Ndombele’s constant absence from the squad under the former Wolves manager is rightly causing insecurity amongst some of the Spurs fans.
